The Chambers

Overview

When the National Capital Commission (NCC) decided to rejuvenate the downtown core and upgrade their existing property holdings , it resulted in a public-private solution that ultimately won awards for innovation and outcome. The site, adjacent to Parliament Hill, is bordered by three Heritage buildings which were commercially nonviable until their complete restoration and integration into the development program.

This redevelopment was very complicated including:

  • the complete restructuring and restoration of one of Canada’s top heritage building monuments
  • the addition of a contemporary 14-story, Class A office tower;
  • 4 levels of underground parking; and
  • upscale ground floor commercial retail in the heritage and new facility.

GBA was an integral part of the development team, managing the project from conception to completion. The complex now provides for private and public commercial operations including the headquarters for the National Capital Commission and a public-private initiative that resulted in a creative development solution; one that was financially successful for both sectors.
